Mediator Appointed Over Asarco Asbestos Claims

Law360, New York (September 21, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Louisiana bankruptcy judge has been appointed to mediate in the long-standing alter ego dispute over asbestos-related personal injury claims that bankrupt mining behemoth Asarco LLC has been fending off for years.

On Thursday, Judge Richard Schmidt, who oversees the massive bankruptcy in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, named Judge Elizabeth Magner the mediator and ordered the parties involved to coordinate the mediation with her.
