Cisco Aims To Rescue AT&T, Others From TR Labs' IP Claims

Law360, New York (July 9, 2012, 6:47 PM EDT) -- Cisco Systems Inc. has slapped Alberta Telecommunications Research Centre with a lawsuit in California, in an attempt to shield AT&T Inc., Sprint Nextel Corp. and other corporate customers from patent suits over network technology.

Alberta Telecommunications, also known as TR Labs, and its subsidiary, TR Technologies Inc., have already brought two suits against eight Cisco customers named in the request for declaratory judgment, claiming their use of networking solutions and routers infringe eight patents exclusively owned and licensed to TR Labs. Other customers have received letters threatening suit, Cisco said in an amended complaint filed Friday.
