Samsung Tablet Doesn't Infringe 'Cool' Apple Design: UK Court

Law360, New York (July 9, 2012, 2:19 PM EDT) -- A U.K. court ruled Monday that Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.'s tablet devices did not infringe Apple Inc.'s design, saying the Galaxy tablets lacked the cool factor of Apple's products.

The Honorable Judge Colin Ian Birss QC of the High Court of Justice ruled that three of Samsung’s Galaxy tablets did not infringe Apple’s community registered design because they lacked the "same understated and extreme simplicity" featured in Apple’s design.

“The overall impression produced is different,” Judge Birss said. “They are not cool.”
