TriWest Ends Fight Over DOD Contract Loss To UnitedHealth

Law360, New York (July 16, 2012, 3:03 PM EDT) -- TriWest Healthcare Alliance Corp. will no longer challenge the U.S. Department of Defense's decision to award an estimated $20.4 billion military health care contract to rival UnitedHealth Group Inc., TriWest said Friday.

After serving as the military's primary medical insurance provider for 16 years, TriWest lost out to UnitedHealth in March when the Pentagon awarded a follow-on Tricare contract. TriWest had initially won that contract in July 2009, but UnitedHealth successfully protested, and the bidding reopened in August.
