Alaska Sues Feds To Block Emissions Rule For Ships

Law360, New York (July 16, 2012, 1:27 PM EDT) -- The state of Alaska on Friday asked a federal court to prevent enforcement of an emissions control area forcing ships off the state's coast to use low-sulfur fuel, arguing that the requirement was not properly approved and will have a devastating impact on Alaska's economy.

Lodging a suit against Secretary of State Hilary Clinton among other federal officials and agencies, the state claims that Clinton illegally accepted the ECA as an amendment to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, known commonly as MARPOL....
