Toyota Sued Over RFID Patent

Law360, New York (September 27, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- An Iowa-based inventor has targeted Toyota Motor Corp. in an infringement lawsuit asserting a single patent related to the use of radio frequency identification technology to start a motor vehicle's engine.

The complaint was filed Wednesday on behalf of inventor Michael C. Ryan and Rydex Ltd. against Toyota Motor Corp. and Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa.

The lawsuit could have implications for auto makers other than Toyota, Ryan's attorney, Edmund Sease, said Thursday.
