Microsoft's GroupMe Says It Hasn't Infringed Rival's Name

Law360, New York (July 18, 2012, 3:17 PM EDT) -- Microsoft Corp. subsidiary GroupMe Inc. has asked a New York federal judge to settle rival mobile messaging service Groupie LLC's ongoing claims that GroupMe infringed its trademarked name.

GroupMe, a service that helps send texts to predetermined groups of contacts, wants the court to clear up a “cloud of uncertainty” about its name that it says Groupie has created by threatening to sue, according to a June 11 complaint.

According to GroupMe, which was acquired by Microsoft's Skype last August, Groupie has launched a “media blitz”...
