Texas Court Won't Let Eurocopter Off Hook For Fatal Crash

Law360, New York (July 19, 2012, 5:47 PM EDT) -- American Eurocopter Corp. cannot escape liability for knowingly shipping a defective gearbox that resulted in a fatal crash and a $2.5 million payout to the deceased pilot's family, a Texas appeals court ruled Wednesday.

The Texas Fifth District Court of Appeals upheld a ruling by a Dallas County district court denying Eurocopter's attempt to recoup from the helicopter’s operator, CJ Systems Aviation Group, the $2.5 million that Eurocopter had already paid to the pilot's family.
