US Fidelis To Pay Consumers $13M To Settle Warranty Suit

Law360, New York (July 19, 2012, 4:43 PM EDT) -- Twelve states announced Thursday they have reached a $13 million settlement with bankrupt car warranty dealer U.S. Fidelis Inc. that will be used to create a restitution fund for consumers who bought shoddy warranties through illegal sales practices for which Fidelis’ owners have pled guilty.

The states — Arkansas, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin — sued the company and its owners in Missouri bankruptcy court for illegal actions including illegal and deceptive junk mail, telemarketing, robocalls and TV...
