MTBE Plaintiffs Urge Federal Judge To Remand Cases

Law360 (October 1, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Officials in seven New York towns have called on a Manhattan federal court judge to remand their water-contamination cases against a group of major oil companies back to state court.

The cases, which allege liability against the energy giants – among them Exxon Mobil Corp., Chevron USA Inc., Conoco Phillips Co. and Shell Oil Co. - for their use of the controversial gas additive, methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), contain no federal question warranting removal, according to the plaintiffs.
