Calif. City Officials Took Bribes For $102M Contract: Suit

Law360, New York (July 24, 2012, 1:43 PM EDT) -- Montebello, Calif., sued three former members of its City Council in state court Saturday for allegedly voting in 2008 to approve a $102 million waste-removal contract in exchange for political donations from the contractor.

City Council members Rosemarie Vasquez, Robert Urteaga and Kathy Salazar voted in July 2008 to approve a "bribe-induced" contract that made Arakelian Enterprises Inc. the city’s exclusive waste hauler, according to the suit. All three members failed to disclose that they had received or solicited campaign donations from AEI, the complaint claims....
