Disabled Wal-Mart Customers Sue Over POS Terminals

Law360, New York (July 25, 2012, 10:40 PM EDT) -- An advocacy group for disabled persons on Wednesday filed a putative class action in California claiming Wal-Mart Stores Inc. discriminates against people in wheelchairs and scooters by not providing accessible point-of-sale terminals.

The Center for Independent Living Inc. alleges Wal-Mart's POS terminals — where customers need to swipe debit or credit cards, authorize transactions and enter their personal information numbers — are mounted too high for disabled customers to use independently.
