New Balance Pays $4M To End Toning Shoes Suit

Law360, New York (July 30, 2012, 10:22 PM EDT) -- New Balance Inc. on Monday agreed to pay up to $3.75 million to settle a proposed class action alleging its Truebalance line of athletic shoes don't help consumers strengthen their leg muscles and burn calories as advertised.

In a settlement agreement filed in the District of Massachusetts, New Balance said it would set up a $2.3 million settlement fund to pay for plaintiffs' claims. Each class member would receive up to $100 for each pair of shoes purchased, according to the settlement.
