Florida Jury Hands Vioxx Win To Merck

Law360, New York (October 5, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Merck & Co. dodged a bullet in a Florida case on Friday when a circuit court jury found that the pharmaceutical giant's painkiller Vioxx was not responsible for a former professional soccer player's heart attack.

After a three-week trial in the Circuit Court of Hillsborough County, Florida, a six-member jury decided that Merck was in the clear on all counts, including claims that the company had concealed safety risks associated with the medicine.
