Allstate, Others Say Poor Expert Witness Dooms Antitrust Suits

Law360, New York (August 13, 2012, 5:05 PM EDT) -- Allstate Indemnity Co. and other insurers on Friday sought to kill an antitrust case accusing them of conspiring to supply inferior repair parts, arguing that the plaintiffs’ expert witness is so unreliable as to decimate the individual claims, similar to what occurred in the now-defunct class action.

The insurers — Allstate, Geico General Insurance Co., Liberty Mutual Fire Insurance Co., State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. and the Certified Automotive Parts Association — moved for summary judgment on all claims in the individual plaintiffs' suit, arguing...
