'Scream' Writer Can't Kill Weinstein's Film Rights Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (August 23, 2012, 4:02 PM EDT) -- A California judge on Thursday refused to toss film studio The Weinstein Co. LLC's lawsuit against "Scream" writer Kevin Williamson over the rights to a project called "The Shadows," ruling the complaint isn't preempted by the Copyright Act because it strictly alleges a contractual dispute.
