Facebook Must Face Messaging Patent Suit In NY, Judge Says

Law360, New York (September 4, 2012, 2:30 PM EDT) -- A New York federal judge on Thursday shot down Facebook Inc.'s bid to move to California a patent infringement suit brought against the social network by EasyWeb Innovations LLC, saying the transfer would place a financial burden on EasyWeb.

U.S. District Judge Joseph F. Bianco denied Facebook's motion to change venue, finding that although the website developed the allegedly infringing messaging technology in California, the Wantagh, N.Y.-based EasyWeb's “choice of forum is still entitled to great deference.”
