US Sanctioned Over Destroyed Coast Guard Contract Docs

Law360, New York (August 31, 2012, 3:02 PM EDT) -- A federal judge on Thursday sanctioned the U.S. government for abusing the judicial process after its witness in a dispute over a U.S. Coast Guard construction contract destroyed reams of evidence that could have helped the plaintiff's case.

In a strongly-worded, 21-page opinion, U.S. Court of Federal Claims Judge Margaret M. Sweeney granted a motion for sanctions by K-Con Building Systems Inc., which claims the government wrongly canceled its contract to build a repair shop at the Coast Guard’s support center in Elizabeth City, N.C....
