California Bans Toys Containing Softening Agent

Law360 (October 15, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- California has placed a ban on toys and baby goods that are tainted with phthalate, a chemical that scientists say could lead to developmental problems.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger passed a bill on Sunday that makes the Golden State the first in the nation to prohibit products containing more than a trace of plastic softener phthalate.
