Transocean Eyes $1.5B Deepwater Settlement With Feds

Law360, New York (September 10, 2012, 12:53 PM EDT) -- Transocean Ltd. and the federal government have tried to broker a $1.5 billion settlement in multidistrict litigation over the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, but talks are at an impasse, according to a Transocean regulatory filing released Monday.

Transocean said in documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that it had discussed resolving civil and criminal claims with the Department of Justice through payments over “a period of years,” but that they had yet to reach an agreement.
