AU Optronics Fined $500M, Execs Jailed For LCD Price-Fixing

Law360, New York (September 20, 2012, 2:14 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Thursday hit AU Optronics Corp. with a $500 million fine and sentenced two of its executives to three years each in jail after the Taiwanese company was found guilty of fixing prices on liquid crystal display screens.

The fine is half of the $1 billion penalty sought by prosecutors in the case, who said AUO deserved no leniency for its role in a $72 billion global conspiracy to systematically fix prices for LCD panels. Prosecutors had also sought 10-year prison sentences...
