Judge Adds $5M To Citrix's $10M Penalty Over SSL Patent

Law360, New York (September 17, 2012, 8:24 PM EDT) -- A Texas federal judge on Monday added $5 million to a $10 million jury award against Citrix Systems Inc. following a trial that found the software maker willfully infringed SSL Services LLC's patented technology covering software for virtual private networks.

U.S. District Judge Rodney Gilstrap listed several factors in his order that contributed to his finding that enhanced damages were appropriate, including Citrix's failure to investigate the possibility of its products’ infringement of U.S. Patent 6,158,011 for eight years, even after SSL filed suit.
