Ex-IRS Official Charged With Conflict After Taking Bank Job

Law360, New York (September 27, 2012, 9:26 PM EDT) -- A former Internal Revenue Service official was arrested Thursday and accused of violating conflict of interest laws for taking a job with a large international bank while negotiating a $210 million tax settlement with the bank on behalf of the government.

Dennis Lerner, 58, an IRS auditor, allegedly sought and took a tax director job at the New York office of a bank believed to be Frankfurt, Germany-based Commerzbank while auditing it for failure to report $1 billion in undeclared income.
