Schlumberger Unit Sued Over Engineers' OT, Rest Breaks

Law360, New York (October 19, 2012, 8:25 PM EDT) -- Drilling-fluid company M-I LLC, a subsidiary of oilfield services giant Schlumberger Ltd., was hit with a proposed class action Thursday in California federal court alleging the company denied its mud engineers proper pay and rest breaks.

Former mud engineers Sarmad Syed and Ashley Balfour, who worked in M-I's drilling operations in Bakersfield, Calif., claim M-I required them to work either 12-hour shifts daily for two weeks before leaving their work sites, or work 24-hour shifts in which they had to respond to calls, even if those...
