REIT Accuses Former VP Of Business Defamation

Law360, Houston (October 22, 2012, 7:16 PM EDT) -- A real estate investment trust on Friday launched a defamation suit in Texas court alleging that after a former executive was fired, he embarked on a crusade to ruin the company by publicly accusing it of violating securities laws.

Hartman Income REIT Inc. claims that former executive vice president Brett Blazer, who was linked to three forged contracts with brokers to sell Hartman securities, conspired with 20 unnamed ex-employees to disrupt Hartman’s business relationships with other brokers by falsely claiming the REIT deceives investors.
