Copyright Law Protects Aereo's Streaming, 2nd Circ. Hears

Law360, New York (October 22, 2012, 6:35 PM EDT) -- Television streaming service Aereo Inc. on Friday urged the Second Circuit to find that the company doesn't run afoul of copyright law, arguing it provides private performances of TV shows and not infringing public performances as claimed by the major TV networks.

In its brief, Aereo says U.S. District Judge Alison J. Nathan correctly ruled in July that its service is materially identical to the DVR service at issue in the so-called "Cablevision" case, which the Second Circuit ruled in 2008 was protected by copyright law...
