MetroPCS, Others Face Patent Challenge Over Cell Systems

Law360, New York (October 24, 2012, 1:54 PM EDT) -- MetroPCS Communications Inc. is among a group of telecommunications companies sued Tuesday in Texas federal court by a patent holder that claims the companies are co-opting its patented cellular communication system.

Cell and Network Selection LLC alleges that MetroPCS and Chinese electronics companies Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., ZTE Corp. and Yulong Computer Telecommunication Scientific (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd. are making, selling and deploying systems that infringe a patent used to switch mobile phones and other wireless devices between different cell towers.
