Federal Circuit Rules For TiVo In Patent Suit

Law360 (August 17, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Entertainment technology maker TiVo Inc. was vindicated in federal court Tuesday, surviving patent litigation brought against its ubiquitous television recording device.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled against Pause Technology LLC, a patent licensing company in Massachusetts, rejecting allegations that California-based TiVo’s primary technology was infringing its older, similar patent.

Pause, a self-described intellectual property licensing company, filed suit in U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts in September 2001, asserting its prized technology patent for recording and playing live television....
