FTC To OK Corning's $730M Labware Buy, With Conditions

Law360, New York (October 31, 2012, 5:40 PM EDT) -- The Federal Trade Commission said Wednesday it would approve Corning Inc.’s $730 million purchase of Becton Dickinson & Co.'s labware unit on the condition that Corning agree to help turn a third company into a serious competitor.

Corning will provide assets and assistance to life sciences company Sigma-Aldrich Co. LLC so that the company — which isn’t involved in the proposed deal — can immediately replace the competitive counterbalance that Becton’s Discovery Labware unit once provided, the watchdog said.
