Hospitals Air Contractor Grievances In Medicare Suit

Law360, New York (November 1, 2012, 9:04 PM EDT) -- The American Hospital Association on Thursday accused Medicare of illegally refusing to reimburse hospitals for hundreds of millions of dollars, in a suit that aims not only to upend agency polices, but also to draw attention to the industry's many grievances with Medicare's audit contractor program.

The complaint, which the AHA filed along with three individual hospitals and a Catholic health system, takes issue with a particular Medicare billing policy. Under the policy, if a hospital's claim for inpatient care is denied, it can't seek payment...
