Microsoft's GroupMe Ends Name Dispute With Rival Service

Law360, New York (November 1, 2012, 5:16 PM EDT) -- Microsoft Inc.'s GroupMe and rival mobile messaging service Groupie LLC on Thursday reached a confidential settlement to resolve a 15-month dispute over their similar-sounding names.

The companies, both of which offer services that allow users to send mobile messages to groups of friends, filed joint motions for dismissal in both the New York federal court and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
