Gulf Landowners Sue BP As Opt-Out Cases Trickle In

Law360, New York (November 2, 2012, 5:30 PM EDT) -- A group Gulf Coast landowners sued BP PLC on Thursday, saying the company's $7.8 billion fund to settle claims from the 2010 Macondo oil spill unfairly applies only to landowners in Louisiana, and seeking to certify a new class of plaintiffs in Alabama, Mississippi, Florida and Texas.

The case is one of dozens expected after a Nov. 1 deadline to either accept or opt out of the settlement. BP said in court documents that 983 entities had opted out of the settlement as of Oct. 19,...
