Oil Tycoon Takes $500M Freshfields RICO Suit To High Court

Law360, New York (November 13, 2012, 3:20 PM EST) -- An oil tycoon's exploration company has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to revive its $500 million suit accusing Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP of conspiring to kill a drilling contract, saying the suit's dismissal excused attorneys' criminal conduct, according to a petition released Friday.

The D.C. Circuit affirmed a lower court's dismissal of the suit in June, finding that oil tycoon Jack J. Grynberg's RSM Production Corp. failed to state a claim of Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act conspiracy against Freshfields related to the firm's alleged...
