GE Wins Ownership Dispute With Ex-Worker Over Wind Patent

Law360, New York (December 3, 2012, 4:02 PM EST) -- A California federal judge found Thursday that General Electric Corp. had full ownership of a wind turbine patent, rebuking a former GE engineer for giving deceptive testimony and shooting down claims that the engineer helped invent the technology.

After a six-day bench trial, U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. O'Neill issued a judgment that ruled against electrical engineer Thomas Wilkins' claims that he was an unnamed inventor of GE's U.S. Patent Number 6,921,985, which covers technology used in wind turbine generators.
