Tech Giants Debate ITC Import Bans Over Essential Patents

Law360, New York (December 4, 2012, 9:58 PM EST) -- The question of whether owners of standard-essential patents should be able to obtain injunctions on infringing products sparked heated comments submitted to the U.S. International Trade Commission on Monday, with Intel Corp. and others saying such orders should be barred and Motorola Mobility LLC and others saying they should remain available.

In November, the ITC said it would review an administrative law judge's ruling that Apple Inc. did not infringe four Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. patents, some of which are essential for industry standards.
