DeMint’s Resignation Leaves Openings In Key Committees

Law360, New York (December 6, 2012, 6:45 PM EST) -- The decision Thursday by U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., to resign and head the Heritage Foundation think tank removes a frequent enemy of government spending and regulation from several key committees, potentially shaking up the Capitol Hill landscape for the energy, financial and transportation sectors.

Perhaps most significant will be DeMint’s departure from the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, where he was slated to become ranking member and was expected to bring a more conservative bent to the panel’s pursuits.
