MGA's $310M Bratz Win Time-Barred, Mattel Tells 9th Circ.

Law360, Los Angeles (December 10, 2012, 11:05 PM EST) -- Mattel Inc. urged the Ninth Circuit on Monday to throw out a $310 million jury award granted to MGA Entertainment Inc. in a dispute over the rights to Bratz dolls, saying MGA waited too long to assert a counterclaim for misappropriation of trade secrets.

Mattel's attorney Kathleen Sullivan said a trial judge erred in finding that the three-year statute of limitations did not apply to the counterclaim because it was related to Mattel's own allegations of trade secret violations against MGA. A jury denied Mattel's claims...
