US Targets Vein Treatment's Marketing In FCA Suit

Law360, New York (December 13, 2012, 9:31 PM EST) -- The U.S. government on Wednesday filed an intervening complaint in a False Claims Act suit in Texas federal court accusing Vascular Solutions Inc. of defrauding Medicare and other government health programs out of $20 million through kickbacks and off-label promotion of its endovenous laser therapy products.

The U.S. government accused VSI of promoting its Vari-Lase device for the ablation of perforator veins, despite never having been approved for such an indication by the FDA.
