Blackberry Maker Faces Patent Challenge Over Keyboard

Law360, New York (September 14, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a rare legal victory for Blackberry maker Research in Motion (RIM), the embattled Canadian company has won its joust over jurisdiction in a patent suit over the keyboard on its popular communications device.

In a pre-emptive strike against a company that had threatened with patent litigation, RIM filed a lawsuit in April in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas against New York-based Eatoni Ergonomics Inc. to have the patent invalidated.
