"Fantasy Baseball" Challenged Over Use Of Major League Statistics

Law360 (September 15, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The multi-million dollar “fantasy sports” industry is scheduled to begin mediation next week over a copyright and trademark dispute with the company created to sublicense the vast trove of sporting statistics for Major League baseball.

In February, fantasy-sports company CBC Distribution and Marketing Inc. filed a preemptive complaint against Major League Baseball Advanced Media, alleging its fantasy sports gamer were not infringing intellectual property held by Advanced Media. The parties are expected to attend mediation on September 20th.
