Anheuser-Busch Defeats ERISA Suit Over InBev Merger

Law360, New York (January 10, 2013, 2:10 PM EST) -- An Ohio federal judge on Wednesday dismissed a class action claiming Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc. was required to pay enhanced pension benefits to employees of a subsidiary that was divested after the beermaker's 2008 merger with InBev.

U.S. District Judge James L. Graham ruled that an Anheuser-Busch pension committee didn't violate the Employee Retirement Income Security Act when it decided that a plan provision meant to help laid-off employees didn't apply to workers whose division was simply spun off to a new owner.
