Preemptive Round Of Lawsuits Targets V-Chip Patent Holder

Law360 (September 20, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Sony, Mitsubishi and other consumer electronics makers have filed preemptive complaints against V-chip patent holder Guardian Media Technology Inc., seeking declaratory judgment of non-infringement.

The companies sued Guardian in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California after receiving written notice of infringement and a request for licensing in August. Guardian sent similar letters to the same companies four years earlier, but failed to take additional action after the companies denied infringement in 2000.
