Settlement Of HSBC Collection Reps Class Suit Nears Approval

Law360, Los Angeles (January 14, 2013, 10:31 PM EST) -- A California federal judge indicated Monday she would approve HSBC Finance Corp.'s settlement with a class of about 900 current and former employees at a Pomona, Calif., collections center who claim the bank shorted them meal periods and committed other employment law violations.

As part of the settlement, HSBC will pay $750,000 to the class over alleged violations that include failing to provide collections representatives with second meal periods when they worked shifts of more than 10 hours and failing to pay overtime as a result...
