Toyota Stops Acceleration Bellwether Just Before Trial

Law360, New York (January 16, 2013, 7:05 PM EST) -- A bellwether lawsuit in multidistrict litigation against Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. over an alleged unintended-acceleration defect will not see trial following a confidential settlement reportedly reached between the parties Wednesday.

The suit, scheduled to begin trial Feb. 19 in the Central District of California, was a bellwether case in a sprawling MDL alleging that Toyota’s Electronic Throttle Control System contains a defect that can cause dangerous unintended acceleration.
