Vilma 'Bountygate' Suit Against NFL Commissioner Tossed

Law360, New York (January 18, 2013, 8:34 PM EST) -- A Louisiana federal judge Thursday threw out a suit by New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma that had accused NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell of slandering him by making public statements about Vilma's involvement in an alleged bounty program.

U.S. District Judge Helen G. Berrigan granted a motion to dismiss by Goodell, rejecting Vilma’s argument that Goodell had made those statements as an individual, and finding that Vilma had sued Goodell as commissioner of the NFL and not an individual.
