Farmers Strike $159M Settlement In Milk Antitrust Case
Law360, New York (January 22, 2013, 3:44 PM EST) -- A class of dairy farmers reached a $158.6 million settlement Tuesday with marketing cooperative Dairy Farmers of America Inc. and others accused of violating antitrust laws by conspiring to control the supply chain and prices for milk in the Southeast.
U.S. District Judge J. Ronnie Greer granted the farmers' motion for preliminary approval of the deal, which in addition to a settlement fund of $158.6 million provides for changes in the way that the defendant dairy processors and marketing service providers do business in the Southeast.
