MassMutual Unit Says SLUSA Precludes Madoff Suits

Law360, New York (January 24, 2013, 3:14 PM EST) -- A hedge fund group indirectly owned by Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. asked a New York federal court Wednesday to toss seven lawsuits that investors brought over losses from Bernard Madoff's multibillion-dollar Ponzi scheme, arguing the claims are barred by the Securities Litigation Uniform Standards Act.

Tremont Group Holdings Inc. and Tremont Partners Inc. filed a motion for judgment in lawsuits that were launched by 100 named plaintiffs in Florida state court, but later sent to New York federal court.
