Amazon, Borders Settle Patent Co.'s Web Site Suit

Law360, New York (November 29, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Amazon.com Inc. and Borders Group Inc. won approval Wednesday for their licensing deals and settlements with a patent-holding company that sued them over their Web sites' electronic message interpretation systems.

Lawyers would not disclose the terms of the agreements. With Judge John Ward's approval, the agreements dismiss Polaris' claims against the two companies and Amazon subsidiary A9.com Inc.

Other big-name defendants are still left fighting Polaris' patent claims. Those left litigating include America Online Inc., Google Inc., IAC/Interactive Corp. and Yahoo Inc.
