Kinder Morgan Drops $25M In Settlement

Law360, New York (November 29, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Pipeline transportation and energy storage company Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP has agreed to a $25 million civil settlement related to the unauthorized sale of its customers' coal, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois announced Wednesday.

Under the out-of-court settlement, Kinder Morgan will pay the U.S. government $19.8 million, triple the amount it allegedly lost as a result of the company's wrongdoing. Kinder Morgan will also reimburse private customers in the amount of $5.2 million.
