The Wage-And-Hour Class Action Epidemic

Law360 (November 30, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Wage-and-hour class actions have moved to the forefront of employment litigation in California, due primarily to multimillion dollar settlements.

The sheer volume of labor code regulations make compliance a challenge for California employers. Thus, targeting an employer with multiple entities and thousands of employees increases potential damages. Examples of these settlements include a $210 million dollar settlement with a national insurance company on a misclassification claim or a $240 million dollar settlement with a national retailer on meal and rest period claims.
